Events for 2011

We take part in as many events as we can.  We stop at nothing.  Our students are inspired to learn in a progressive environment and being part of an active network of people helps us to achieve our goals.  Our teachers and parents support our needs and are constantly tapping into new ideas to help us reach our full potential.  We may be a small school but we are 'Big' on doing our best!

Swimming

Hosted by Kotemaori School in February this year.  Our students did very well and came away with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placings.

Speeches

Hosted by Putorino School in July this year.  The students and teachers worked well together on the delivery of 'What makes a good speech?'  The topic this year was based on 'Change'.  Five students were chosen to represent Tareha School.  Everyone had made fantastic personal improvements and one of our students won their age group and came second overall.  Our students have had a great year developing their confidence.

Barefoot 7s

We take part in this event every year.  This year we had planned for everyone to take part.  Unfortunately, the event was cancelled due to freezing weather conditions.

Swimming: Swim Safe Programme

We are also part of a swim safe programme and are working towards passing  each module on an individual basis.  All of our students participated in the programme held at the Aquatic Centre in Onekawa on 31 August.

Fonterra Science Roadshow

We participated in the Fonterra Science Roadshow held at Napier Intermediate on 31 August.  Our students were very excited to take part in the hands-on experiences.  The roadshow was extremely worthwhile and added value to our Integrated Inquiry Topic (2iT) based on 'Thinking' with a science twist.

Cross Country

To be held on the 8 September hosted by Tareha School.  We are part of a cluster group of country schools.  We each host different events to provide students with opportunities to compete with others their own age.
* Update...
The Cross Country event was held on 8 September with approximately 90 students taking part.  It was a glorious sunny day with a light breeze to keep us cool.  The day went like clock work.  Everyone pitched in to make the day a success.  The students found that the course pushed them to their potential and some exceeded their own expectations.  The main aim was that everyone had to complete the course at their own pace and be proud of their achievements.  It was truly a special day shared by family, friends, and the wider community who supported the school by cooking sausages, making tea and coffee, and supplying some delicious baking for morning tea.  The day was enjoyed by all.

Ukulele Lessons

We will be learning how to play the ukulele on 12 September.  This will be a great learning opportunity for us.  We are excited and can't wait!
Update...
We had a great time learning to play the ukulele with Ngaire Shand who equally enjoyed teaching us!  We know how to play chords C, F, and G7.  Our teacher, Miss M, is going to continue with the lessons so that we can play as a group at our end of year prize giving.  We will keep you posted!

Meeanee Seven's

We will be taking part in the Meeanee Seven's event held at Meeanee School.  This is a great no stress event that caters for students of all ages.  It has an inclusive feel to it and everyone has a great time.  The students play netball, ripper rugby, and soccer.  This will be held on 4 October with a postponement date of 6 October.

Pet Day

We hold a pet day every year and all students bring their favourite domestic and farm pets to school.  They parade them in front of our favourite judge and the owner of the winning pet for each category receives a certificate.  We have loads of fun.  We also receive certificates for the best baking, hobbies and crafts, artwork, writing, and vegetable art.

Athletics

Hosted by Tutira School in November this year.

Culture Day

Hosted by Mohaka School on 18 November this year.

Events for 2012

Swimming

This  event was cancelled this year due to unforeseen circumstances with our host school.  However, we hope to run our own small fun event if the weather permits.  Also, we aim to provide swimming lessons with a swimming instructor later in the year.
